What to Bring:
Avete Omnes,
Here are some guidelines about what to bring to all events. You should have two separate kits - one for day-only, and another addendum for if you are planning to camp overnight.
This year we are attempting to make the legion display area as camping-friendly as possible to save hotel and dining costs. We need everyone's help to make this a success.
1. Firewood and Ice
The camp always needs firewood and ice. Regardless if you are planning on staying overnight, these items are always appreciated. A great deal of time and money has been invested in the camp display and contributions of firewood and ice are a great way for the rest of us to contribute to the success of the legion.
2. Your Own Water and Food
Everyone needs to be self-sufficient in terms of water and food. In cases of very warm weather events that will occur later in the Summer, an entire case of water is recommended. The legion camp does not provide drinking water.
Everyone should bring their own cooler with ice for water and food items needing refrigeration.
Often the legion camp will provide group meals. In those cases, the meals will be announced prior to the event, and will usually consist of breakfast and/or dinners and/or lunches. Everyone should be prepared to provide their own lunch. If you would like to bring a special item for any meal (which is always appreciated!), please let everyone know so we can best coordinate meals.
3. Personal Campaign Items
Please see the Camp Regulations Page. All legionaries and civilians should have a kit like this in addition to their cooler. You must also have a non-FARB mug/cup and mess kit (plate, bowl, and utensils) if you wish to eat or drink anything during event hours. Wood and pottery are ideal, and the cheapest and easiest place to acquire them is at a thrift store.
4. Something to Sit On
A good, strong non-FARB chair with a back is an investment that will prove valuable at every event. Seating - both during visitor hours and at bacchanalia - is always at a premium. We do have some stools and folding chairs which are part of the camp, but they always seem to fill up quickly. If you would like to have to opportunity to sit during an event, make sure you have your own chair.
Chairs should be all-wood and not of modern design. You may cover a wooden chair that looks too modern with wool or cotton, but folding "Sports Chairs" are not allowed.
If anyone finds a good source for non-FARB seating, I'm sure everyone will be interested.
5. Refreshing Beverages
If you are planning on staying in camp after hours, please bring refreshing beverages for use by yourself, legion members, and campfire guests from other groups. Exhibitors at these events are normally very generous with their food and beverages and we want to make sure we can reciprocate. Plus, it's a lot more fun to share than it is to mooch.
6. Overnight Camping Items
If you plan on staying in camp overnight, a sleeping bag, tent & mattress or cot will be necessary. Limited space is available in the main legion tent on a first-come, first-served basis. Those wishing to use the main tent should coordinate with the Centurion.
