Legio II Adiutrix

Camp Regulations 2010:

Avete Omnes,

This is the first Logistics Bulletin of this season. Questions and/or comments are certainly welcome.

As campaign season 2010 is ready to start, we have outlined some basic camp rules we want to implement this year in order to maximize our display performance and make the most of all the effort our members have contributed.

The rules have been kept to an absolute minimum, so please observe them conscientiously. Please do not make the Centurion or other legion members remind you of these regulations. It is your responsibility to supervise yourself with respect to compliance. Continued failure to observe these regulations will result in exclusion from further events.

1. Legion II in Colorado uses the Legion XX Handbook for authenticity and other performance standards. See: http://www.larp.com/legioxx/hndbk.html

  • Special attention should be paid to unacceptable kit outlined in "Things to Avoid": http://www.larp.com/legioxx/bad.html
  • Temporary exceptions will obviously be needed - especially for new members - but must be approved by the Centurion. In the absence of the Centurion, exceptions may be approved temporarily by other senior members of the legion.

    2. It is completely understood that a full, accurate set of armor & gear takes a lot of time and money to accumulate. However, Legio II allows event participation for anyone meeting the following minimum standard.
The absolute minimum items required for both males and females to participate in a Legio II event are:

    A. Woolen or linen tunic meeting Legio XX specifications
    B. Sandals (Calligae for soldiers) made by Deepeeka or meeting Legio XX specifications
    C. Plain leather or rope belt. Leather belts must have period-correct buckles.

    3. A great deal of effort, time and expense have been invested in the camp tentage, displays and equipment. We all must treat these respectfully and take care of all items as if they were your own - especially during set-up and tear-down. Our continued existence as a legion depends on these items lasting as long as possible.

    4. While designed to be a fun and fulfilling experience for everyone, Legio II in Colorado is a serious living history organization. Legion officers go to great lengths to secure participation in high-quality events as well as maintain good contacts and relationships that keep the legion in front of the public.

  • At no time will a member of the legion behave rudely or unprofessionally to any event staff, visitor or fellow exhibitor. Always conduct yourself in a manner befitting a proper Roman and do nothing that would reflect poorly on our legion and/or affect our being asked back to any event.

    5. No non-Roman civilians are allowed in the camp interior during the hours that the display is open to the public - including family members and friends. Exceptions will be made for event staff, fellow event participants and those wishing to hire the legion for upcoming events.

  • Those members who invite family and friends should recognize that many events take place during the very warm months of the Summer and make the necessary arrangements to provide comfortable accommodations for those they invite. The display interior cannot be used as a cool-off area for family & friends.

    6. Camp or equipment items belonging to the legion may not be removed from the camp without permission of the Centurion (e.g. chairs taken to the Viking encampment for after-hours revelry)

    7. No modern / FARB items may be visible in the camp interior during the hours that the display is open to the public. The Centurion will designate when the "NO-FARB" time begins in the morning and ends in the afternoon. In general these times will coincide with the hours that the event is open to the public, but the Centurion will make the actual call each day.

    8. The Centurion is the only person authorized to speak or make commitments for the legion. If any legion member is approached by anyone to contract the services of the legion or make a media statement, that person should be referred to the Centurion.

    9. All Legion II members must bring the following items - regardless if they are planning to camp in the display area or not. Most members of this legion are very generous - so please do not take advantage. Be self-sufficient. Better still, in addition to being self-sufficient, coordinate with the or senior members and bring communal items that can be enjoyed by everyone.

    A. Water. Calculate what you think you will need for yourself and then multiply by 2X.
    B. Food. Although communal meals may be prepared at most events, you need to bring enough food to feed yourself if you are planning on camping and not going into town for meals. Especially for lunch. These communal meals - normally breakfasts or dinners - will be announced via email prior to the event.
    C. Something to Sit On. Actual Roman camp seating is not possible for most members, but seating should be as period-correct as possible and covered with wool or linen if FARBY. Folding sports chairs are never allowed.
    D. Legio II Required Campaign Items (see attached list). These are personal necessity items such as sunscreen and bug-spray. You should assemble a campaign kit that you bring to all events - even of you are not staying overnight.

Regardless if you are just staying for the day or intending to spend the weekend, a well-equipped legionary will arrive with a Campaign Items kit (daypack or satchel), a cooler for cold items, sack or box for dry goods, and something to sit on.
Communal items that are almost always needed include:

  • A. Water
  • B. Ice
  • C. Firewood
  • D. Wine, Mead, Beer, etc. for those at or above legal age (21 in Colorado)
  • E. Sun Screen
  • F. Bug Spray
  • G. Band Aids
  • H. OTC Pain Reliever
  • I. OTC Allergy Medecine / Benadryll
  • J. OTC Antibiotic / Neosporin
  • K. Personal Wipes (Baby Wipes, Wet Ones, etc.)
  • L. Flashlight
  • M. Leather Lacing
  • N. Small Towel
  • O. Sewing Kit
  • P. Rivet Repair Kit - Rivets, Washers & Ball Peen hammer
